Why would you want to join Advantage One Credit Union? That's easy. Because we're a not-for-profit financial cooperative, we charge lower fees and have lower loan rates than most big banks. And maybe best of all, we're committed to improving the financial security of everyone who walks through our doors, as we offer everything from friendly personal service to free financial education.

Can you join Advantage One? Under our charter, we are permitted to serve the entire state of Michigan. If you work, worship, or attend school in Michigan, you're eligible. Membership is also open to immediate family members of existing AOCU account holders. This also includes stepchildren, stepparents, step siblings, and adopted children.

History of AOCU

  • 1952
    On January 24, 1952, the credit union's charter was approved as the McLouth Employees Federal Credit Union, serving employees of McLouth Steel Corporation.

  • 1982
    The credit union's name was changed to Southgate Community Federal Credit Union and the field of membership was expanded to serve the families living or working in Southgate.

  • 1991
    The city of Riverview was added to our field of membership.

  • 1993
    The Riverview office was opened in 1993 to better serve members across our expanding field of membership.

  • 2001
    The field of membership was expanded to include 15 Downriver communities. To better reflect our new, broader field of membership, we changed our name to Advantage One Federal Credit Union.

  • 2003
    The Brownstown branch was opened on September 17, 2003. The branch was built to act as the new headquarters to house the growing support staff and to offer better convenience to our newly expanded field of membership.

  • 2007
    The field of membership was expanded to include the communities of Taylor, Huron Township and Romulus.

  • 2016 
    The membership voted to move from a Federal Charter to a State Charter, change our name to Advantage One Credit Union, and open services to all southeast Michigan.

  • 2020
    The entire state of Michigan is now eligible to apply for membership.
